May

Hannah's preschool had a graduation ceremony for the pre-k graduates. While Pomp and Circumstance played, Hannah walked the aisle and received a diploma. I thought it was hysterical, but several of the mothers had tears flowing.

Hannah’s Mother’s Day card included her thoughts on what makes her happy: When my mom gives me hugs and kisses.

The girls' latest school pictures:

Everyone takes the obligatory kids-in-the-Blue-Bonnets picture each spring. I have never bothered, but my mom made an attempt at it. It's pretty sad that this is the best picture of the bunch:

While I was doing my weekly grocery shopping, an item that was rung up required ID. The cash register asked the employee, "Is the customer under 40 years?" With a quick glance at me, she quickly replied, "No." Excuse me? Maybe I need to wear more makeup when I go to Walmart. Slap on my fancy clothes and curl my hair.

At a convenience store sign near our house:
Beer and wine sold here!
Great Mother's Day gifts!

Abby was excited about her school’s field day at a nearby park. “We have to walk all the way to the park!” she said. “But I’m prepared. I have legs.”

I noticed that Hannah had bruises up and down both legs. “That’s okay,” I told her. “That just means you like to play a lot.” Several days later, they had faded. When she noticed, she said, “Mom! Where are my play spots?”

One of Hannah's favorite toys is a workbench and tools. She wants to be a carpenter when she grows up. She calls herself a worker girl. My mom contributed the following story:

Yesterday when I was taking Hannah to school there was a phone repairman and truck parked half on the street by Braum's setting up orange cones and ladders. We were stopped at the red light and Hannah asked why the worker man didn't have to obey the traffic signals and move his truck every time the light changed. I said the police gave him special permission to park there because he was a worker man and was going to fix the telephone wires. Hannah said, "Will the police give me special permission because I'm a worker girl?"

For part of Hannah's birthday celebration, the girls got a horse riding lesson. They learned how to groom, saddle, and control a horse. The last half of the session was a trek through the field. By the end of the day, the girls were begging us to buy them horses. It was a fun time for them!

Hannah was quite worn out by the end of the day:

I was working on the computer when Hannah came up and kissed me on the lips. She left but returned ten seconds later with this reason. “I accidentally wiped off your kiss!” She kissed me again and left satisfied.

Hannah's self-portrait:

This is a forgotten Easter time story:

There were several posters around town advertising a “Candy free Easter egg hunt!” Mike and I dismissed the thought of that particular hunt, but the girls were adamant that they wanted to go. Not even realizing that they wouldn’t know what candy free means, I asked why they wanted to go. “It’s candy!” they said. “It’s free!”

This was taken several months ago, but it was just given to me. I think it's beautiful!

Abby made some pictures for me for Mother’s Day. In one, she said that I am her sunshine. In another, she combined my face with the sun for a big Mommy son. She taped it to the wall. When a friend of ours came over, he said, “Is that a picture of a troll?” “No,” I smiled, “it’s me!”
